6 Homemade Mint Face Pack And My Experience With Mint On Skin

Acne can be particularly frustrating for adults. A treatment that worked so well during our teen years can be useless — or make acne worse. Some adults continue to get acne well into their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s. It is even possible to get acne for the first time as an adult. There are various over the counter medicines as well as products in the market which claims to treat acne but there is always some side effects of those products. There is always a better way to treat that hateful acne naturally without any side effects. One of the best ways to treat acne is through homemade mint face pack and I am going to share my experience on this and its benefits on my skin. But the main thing is first we should know what is the reason behind the acne formation.

If you’re getting acne as an adult, it is likely due to one or more of the following reasons

  • Fluctuating hormone levels: An imbalance can lead to breakouts. Women often experience fluctuating hormones around their periods, during pregnancy, premenopause, and menopause or after discontinuing (or starting) birth control pills.

  • Stress: Due to stress also acne flare-ups.

  • Family history: Findings from research studies suggest that some people may have a genetic predisposition for acne.

  • Hair and skin care routine: Acne flares up due to improper hair skin care.

  • Medication side effect: Acne is a side effect of some medicines also.

My experience with acne and homemade mint face pack

I am someone who got acne for the first time as an adult. I have a combination type of skin. I tried many different kinds of treatment to get rid of acne. Some products were able to control my acne but only for a certain period of time and made my skin more sensitive. The more I strive to clear my skin, the more pimples I seemed to get. I wasted a lot of money, time and emotional energy. The trouble is not only acne but also the permanent scar/blemish it leaves behind on our skin.

Then someday someone suggested me to apply homemade mint pack to treat/heal acne. After spending so much of money finally I got a solution for my ugly pimples/acne.

I searched on the internet and came to know that Mint Leaves act as

  • A great healer for pimples/acne.  Its external application helps to fade away the acne scars and internal intake purifies the blood and reduces acne re-occurrence.

  • Mint has an anti-acne element which dries up the acne cleans up the pores. External application of crushed mint leaves can lighten the acne scar/blemish.

  • The vitamin A element helps in controlling the excessive oil that the skin produces which results in acne. It tones up the skin removes the blackheads instantly.

  • It has an antioxidant property which keeps the skin soft supple.

  • Mint leaves help in fighting against various bacterial infections including acne as it is also formed due to bacteria. Consumption of mint purifies the blood which in turn removes impurities such as pimples /acne.

Here are some methods to apply homemade mint face pack topically on the face which I used during acne period.

  1. After cleansing my face I applied mint juice mixed with lemon juice on my moderate cystic acne as well as on problem area through ear-bud/ q-tips twice a day. I blended the leaves in a blender and extracted the juice from the paste and stored it in an airtight container and refrigerate. you can use this juice up to 2-3 days.

  2. I applied a mask of mint leaves daily for faster recovery. I used freshly blended mint leaves and mixed it with curd and lemon juice and applied on the whole face. Waited for 30 minutes and washed off with cold water.

  3. I also used a natural homemade toner to heal acne and to remove the scar. I made the water to boil and added a handful of freshly crushed mint leaves and basil leaves and simmered it for 20 minutes. When it cooled down I applied on my face. I could store and refrigerate it up to 6-7 days.

I was very desperate to make my skin free from acne so I used this regime on a daily basis. After 3 weeks, all my old dark spots started to fade and tiny pimples were gone and the big ones were on a healing stage. The moment I applied this mask I got the cooling sensation and made me energized. After 2 months I got a face free from big cystic acne and some older dark spots and no new blemishes.

Whenever I see my face in the mirror, my skin looks hydrated and imparts a glow. I haven’t discontinued the whole regime but the only changes are that previously I used to apply the mask on daily basis for 3 weeks, now  I am using twice a week. It prevents me from future bad acne as well as gives a glow to my face.

Cinnamon powder increases circulation, bringing blood and oxygen to the surface of the skin where it’s applied. The combination of cinnamon and honey can help treat and prevent stubborn acne. They’re both full of antioxidants and they have antibacterial properties.

Honey is anti-inflammatory, and it soothes and moisturizes your skin.

NOTE :

  • Cleanse, tone and moisturize twice a day – once in the morning before you put on makeup, and once at night before you go to bed. This will give your skin a chance to heal and breath overnight rather than being clogged by dirt or makeup.

  • Once or twice a week, in place of your daily cleanser, you should exfoliate with an exfoliating facial wash. Make sure that it’s nothing too harsh. The exfoliation is essential because it removed dead skin cells which can leave your complexion appearing dull and can clog up pores.

  • Apply a face mask regularly after cleansing your face.

Vitamin E Hair Serum for Hair Growth Healthy Scalp

Hair fall, dandruff, and other scalp problems are a pain. Solving hair problem is not simple. With all the remedies that claim to solve the problem, there are only a few that show real results. Vitamin E is one such remedy. Vitamin E hair serum is best to reduce hair fall, hair breakage and to promote hair growth.

Vitamin E hair serum has antioxidant properties that help repair and build tissue. When you apply vitamin E hair serum to your scalp, it helps reduce inflammation and repair damage to the follicles, and healthy follicles encourage hair growth.

I was suffering from dandruff, hair fall, and oily scalp since a teenager. I tried almost every shampoo shown in TV advertisements with temporary results and obvious side effects. My hair became half of what it was.  I heard a lot about essential oils for solving hair issues. So, I thought I should give a chance to my hair to absorb the benefits of essential oil.

After searching on the internet I came to know that the gentle power of these plant extracted oil can work wonders on your hair and scalp. Within a few months, I started seeing the results. It was slow but I could see a positive ray of light. My scalp sebum control was the first result I got. Eventually, I was able to control my hair problems to a very good extent.

These aromatic oils penetrate deeply into hair shaft and follicles and help produce healthy, shiny hair. Essential oils can be used to:

  • Promote healthy hair growth

  • Strengthen hair shaft

  • Improve the scalp and hair condition

  • Help with dandruff

  • Soothe irritated scalp

  • Normalize the function of sebaceous gland which produces oil to our scalp

Now, I am sharing the recipe of vitamin E hair serum for dandruff, hair fall and scalp problem that I am using since a teenager (with some moderation in the recipe) from which I got a problem free scalp and a shiny frizz free hair.

I use some of the essential oils mixed with my favourite carrier oil because when some essential oil is blended with other essential oils, it becomes more effective on skin because you will get various types of benefits from different oils in one application.

If you are a DIY person you can create some very beneficial hair or skin care products for yourself and your family.

There are hundreds of essential oils to choose from, each with different wonderful properties. But here’s my top favorite and I use twice a week before shampooing my hair.

Benefits Of Vitamin E Hair Serum

  • Vitamin E oil helps widen the blood vessels so that it is more easily carried. It also prevents blood from clotting, ensuring smooth flow.  Vitamin E’s antioxidant properties repair damaged hair follicles, prevent tissue corrosion, and help build tissue. This keeps your follicles healthy and promotes healthy hair growth. It promotes blood circulation and acts as a deep moisturizer for your hair, preventing breakage and brittle hair.

small trial from 2010 found that vitamin E supplements improved hair growth in people with hair loss. It’s thought that the vitamin’s antioxidant properties helped reduce oxidative stress in the scalp. Oxidative stress has been linked with hair loss.

  • Castor oil carries ricinoleic acid and omega- 6 essential fatty acids, which accelerate blood circulation to the scalp, hence increasing hair growth. It works on nourishing the scalp and strengthening the roots with the help of essential nutrients.

  • Argan and almond oil solves the problems like dry, flaky scalp or dandruff, switching to argan oil is a good idea. They are vitamin e rich oils which solve the hair fall problems and make hair strong and healthy.

  • Rosemary essential oil is one of the premier hair growth enhancing essential oils. It is packed with antioxidants which help scavenge free radicals – that are responsible for graying as well as hair thinning. it is also effective for treating dandruff, itchiness, scalp irritation and oily skin.

  • Rose essential oil balances the oil secretion of the sebaceous glands; hence, it is equally beneficial for a dry or an oily scalp. Its antiseptic action helps control bacterial and fungal problems, including dandruff. It also adds shine and protect my hair from the heat of a blow dryer.

  • Tea tree essential oil has antibacterial, antiseptic, and antioxidant properties which stimulate healthy hair growth and heal many scalp problems such as dryness and flakiness. It strengthens hair follicles which promote hair growth, treats oily hair and keeps scalp healthy.

Things To Remember:

  • I use castor oil, argan and almond oil because it is a carrier oil which is used to dilute essential oils before they are applied to the skin scalp in massage. Essential oils should always be diluted because it may irritate your skin. Carrier oils are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. It ensures that essential oils applied topically are comfortable to the skin.

  • Using Essential oils you have to be patient as it takes the time to show their power on your skin and scalp.

  • Additionally, certain essential oils should be avoided by pregnant women, infants, and young children and Be sure to do a patch test to make sure your skin does not have an adverse reaction to the oils.

  5. optional: Steaming your hair with a hot towel after oiling is excellent as it helps hair to absorb the oil. Just wrap a warm towel around it for 10 minutes. Make sure that the towel is not too hot as too much heat can harm the hair shaft.
  6. Oil at least once a week, but you can go ahead and do it more frequently.

Apple Cider Vinegar Toner For Beautiful Skin

(This post contains affiliate links. My full disclosure is very boring, but you can read it here.)

Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is very useful for our health as well as for our skin.  Beneficial ingredients in raw apple cider vinegar give it its power to make us feel better, look better, and feel energized. It is great for acne prone skin. I am going to share the benefits as well as my experience with DIY apple cider vinegar toner.

It is made from nutritious, organically grown apples and retains many beneficial components because raw apple cider vinegar is not pasteurized. ACV undergoes two fermentation processes where it produces enzymes and life giving nutrients that make apple cider vinegar the powerhouse it is. Firstly we should know about the skin benefits of apple cider vinegar.

Two separate studies published in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology and International Journal of Cosmetic Science claim that acetic acid, lactic acid, citric and succinic acids can kill P. acnes, the bacteria that cause acne and apple cider vinegar contains all these acids. (Source1, Source2)

Skin benefits of apple cider vinegar toner

  • Apple has potassium which is one of the reasons why many people suffer from dry skin is due to the deficiency of potassium. Potassium keeps the skin moisturized and hydrated internally.

  • Apple pectin helps fight against changes to the skin structure associated with aging.

  • Malic acid of apple works as an exfoliant, helping to rid the skin of dead skin cells, dark spots, scars, and acne.

  • Apple has calcium has skin benefits include cell renewal, lipid barrier function, and antioxidant protection from DNA damage.

  • Apple cider vinegar contains lactic acid and there is another study which proves that lactic acid treats and prevents acne. (Source)

  • Ash of apple normalizes the skin pH.

  • Acetic acid of apple helps in exfoliation and in hydration of the skin.

My experience with homemade apple cider vinegar toner

For the past 3 months, I have been using a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water as a toner, every morning and every evening after I wash my face. I saw a noticeable change and improvement in my skin in just a couple of weeks time.

I have noticed that my skin tone has become softer and I have less dry and itchy red patches, plus less oiliness in my trouble area. I can see less visible tiny pores on my cheeks and nose that seemed to always be there. I have also noticed less everyday regular breakouts. I have observed that many of my previous breakouts were seemingly due to clogged pores and no matter how much I washed my face, I would still have that problem, this toner has seriously been the answer I was looking for.

Try Cooling cucumber face toner for acne

You Can Substitute Water With Other Ingredients In Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

Substitute water with red wine as it gives a refreshing glow to the skin while removing tan and blemishes. The anti-aging properties of a wine make it even more beneficial. You can also customize your toner by adding witch hazel, green tea, essential oils such as tea tree oil or lavender, etc.

You can also substitute water with cucumber juice also as it will give a cooling effect on the skin. You can also infuse the water with some fresh herbs like basil leaves, mint leaves, oregano, neem leaves etc for added benefits. Chop handful of fresh herbs, bring it to a boil with water and simmer over a low heat for 20 minutes. Strain the mixture and let the water cool before adding it in place of regular water to your toner mixture. You can keep this boiled water in an airtight container for 6-7 days in the refrigerator.

How To Make And Use
  1. Pour 1 part Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar into a glass jar, bottle or container.
  2. Add 2 parts distilled or filtered water.
  3. Shake the bottle to combine the mixture.
  4. Apply the toner to your freshly cleansed skin using a cotton ball or pad, avoiding the eye area.
  5. Apply your usual, daily moisturizer after the apple cider vinegar toner has dried.
  6. Experiment with the ratios of ACV to water and see what your skin likes and responds to the most. You will know when you find it.
Notes
1. Be sure to use an organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar, preferably with the ‘mother’.

2. Apple cider vinegar does smell a little bit like feet. Once the toner dries on your face, the smell almost completely dissipates, in my opinion. If the smell does bother you too much, instead of letting the mixture dry on your face and stay on there, try letting it dry a bit, then rinse your face quick with a splash or two of water, before applying your moisturizer.

3. This will sting on any open pores, scratches, pimples. Breaking out from apple cider vinegar is normal. It kills off bad yeast. Apparently, it works by purging your skin’s toxins before it starts to heal. The purging can come in the form of acne.

4. ACV is highly acidic and a pH of 3.0. Using this more than twice daily can be too much for some skin types, especially if skin already has issues.

5. It does work for many, but for others, it certainly can be an issue. So carefully watch your skin to gage results.

6. New pictures have been updated but the recipe is the same.
